Jobs Not Jails
HIRE offers employment readiness and direct job placements for people who have justice involvement. We partner with employers for direct placement and also with local organizations who provide the full wraparound services or job training and we assist with job readiness, life skills, social/emotional support, job placement (including direct placement, internships and on the job training), and ongoing follow-up and career advancement. We are anticipating piloting two hands-on job training programs in 2026 focused on dog walking/behavior with an entrepreneurship focus and an agriculture training program.
In 2024, HIRE provided services for 109 job seekers. Services included resume writing, interview assistance, job search, career advancement, re-skilling and up-skilling and job placement. Clients in the program also received 1:1 clinical case management and access to 1:1 and group therapy support. Despite not having a dedicated staff member for employment, 71% were placed into employment earning an average of $41,915/year.
Transforming Integration into Meaningful Experiences (T.I.M.E.) Mentoring Program
Transforming Integration into Meaningful Experiences (T.I.M.E..) Mentoring program connects lived experience mentors with youth in the justice system. Mentors are able to share their personal stories and work with the youth to ensure they are attending school/programming while incarcerated, creating reentry plans and are linked with services they may need to succeed. Topics addressed include substance use, gang involvement, home/family life, childhood traumas, leadership skills and more.
In 2024, 6 lived experience mentors provided mentorship to 9 youth in juvenile custody, two of whom were released and are now working!
