Orange County Animal Allies (Formerly Orange County SPCA)

Profile Current (Last updated: Aug 06, 2025 )

OUR STORY

Orange County Animal Allies began in 1984 as a small but dedicated group of animal lovers in Orange County coming together to form an organization dedicated to helping Orange County residents and their animals. In 1987, we were granted 501(c)(3) nonprofit status and the Orange County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OCSPCA) was born. In February of 2020, we rebranded the organization as the Orange County Animal Allies to better reflect our unique position and dedication to Orange County's animals in need.

In 2019, the organization changed its name to OC Animal Allies to reflect its unique position in the animal welfare space and to more accurately convey its mission and vision.

With a continued focus on how best to serve the residents and animals in Orange County, our organization has developed innovative programs that focus on keeping animals out of shelters, and potentially euthanasia. Today, OC Animal Allies provides solutions for spay and neuter, emergency financial support, education and other resources. Our programs bring hope to Orange County pet owners who often have nowhere else to turn for help.

OC Animal Allies is an independent, volunteer-driven, non-profit and is not affiliated with any other SPCA, including the ASPCA. We do not receive any funding from government or other agency and our operations are entirely funded by the generosity of our individual and corporate donors.

Every day, our team witnesses the immediate impact of Orange County Animal Allies' programs in the lives of pets and families across our community. What moves me most is seeing these services work together to create lasting change.

Last month alone, we approved and distributed 415 spay and neuter vouchers with the goal to help prevent pet overpopulation at its source. Our emergency fund helped a single mother afford her dog's life-saving surgery after a hit-and-run accident. Meanwhile, our food bank distributed over 1,900 pounds of pet food to families facing food insecurity—keeping hundreds fed and at home where they belong.

These aren't just numbers—they represent families staying together, shelters with space for truly homeless animals, and a community taking proactive steps toward ending pet overpopulation. Each spay prevents a crisis. Each emergency surgery preserves a bond. Each bag of food demonstrates that we value both pets and the people who love them.

Our frontline staff, volunteers, and veterinary partners see the gratitude in pet owners' eyes when we remove barriers to care. They understand that compassionate, accessible services don't just help animals—they strengthen our entire community's fabric.

The demand for these services continues growing, but so does our resolve. With community support, we're not just responding to need—we're preventing it. We're building a Orange County where geography and income never determine whether a pet receives care.

Thank you for making this life-changing work possible.

Impact Statement

Orange County Animal Allies is committed to strengthening the human-animal bond and strives to improve the lives of animals and the residents throughout Orange County. Our organization envisions a community where all animals are cared for with love and respect they deserve and where people can experience the unconditional love that only animals can give.

In 2025, our goals are the following:
■ Direct aid to over 1,700 animals
■ 800+ Therapy dog visits to 58 facilities and special public and private events
■ Thousands assisted through our staffed helpline
■ More than 25,000 pounds of pet food and supplies distributed to rescue, homeless and low income families for their pets
■ Canine Literacy Program visits assisting more than 4500 Orange County students
■ In partnership with DA’s office, 12 PANDA (Pet Assisted Therapy) cases assisting victims of sexual abuse.

In 2025, our goals are to strengthen our impact on the community by providing better access to more affordable spay, neuter and wellness for their pets, and to strengthen our humane education programs to help inspire a new generation of dedicated animal lovers who can provide and care for Orange County's animals.

Needs Statement

1-Orange County Animal Allies is in need of financial support to expand current programs for the spay/neuter for dogs and domestic and community (feral) cats via TNR programs. With costs continuing to increase, we are seeing a significant increase in the number of pet owners struggling to provide care for basic care as, or worse the ability to handle an unexpected medical emergency with their beloved pets. Increasing funding by $150k will help to address rising costs in veterinary care and the widening financial gaps creating barriers for access to veterinary care.
and medical assistance for animals of low income owners.
2-Dog/Cat food and pet supplies from distribution centers and retail stores. Our food pantry falls short of demand on a monthly basis, as more families and individuals face the difficulties of providing food for families and pets. Connecting with distributors to provide food for these valuable programs will help reduce the amount of food that needs to be purchased to fill shortcomings, allowing the funds to address other areas of need, such as our financial assistance programs.
3-Corporate partners to sponsor programs and provide a means for employee contributions and volunteer services

Statement from the Board Chair/President

As Board Chair of Orange County Animal Allies, I see daily how our programs break the cycle of pet overpopulation while ensuring families never have to choose between their beloved pets and basic needs.

Our spay and neuter programs tackle animal homelessness at its source, preventing thousands of unwanted litters and reducing shelter overcrowding. When medical emergencies arise, our financial support ensures families don't surrender pets due to unexpected veterinary costs. Through our pet food bank, we help underserved families keep their companions healthy and at home during difficult times.

These interconnected services create a vital safety net for Orange County's pets and families. We believe the human-animal bond should flourish regardless of economic circumstances.

With your continued partnership, Orange County Animal Allies will keep expanding these essential programs, building a more compassionate community where every pet has the chance for a healthy, loved life.
