PROGRAMS
Street Services
The Street Services program is SPIN's original program, started by its founder, Sam Boyce, in 1987. Street Services is run almost exclusively by volunteers who prepare hundreds of sack meals and distribute them to Orange County shelters and homeless encampments, often including warm blankets, sleeping bags, jackets, rain ponchos, hygiene kits, referrals, and more.
The program is successful because it brings one of life's basic necessities to people who are otherwise unable to obtain them - food and nutrition. At the same time, it also offers resources and connections to services to those who are homeless and don't know how or where to get help.
Guided Assistance to Permanent Placement (GAPP) Housing Program
SPIN’s housing program covers move-in costs, rental assistance and support services to homeless and at-risk families with children. As an Access Point for homeless families in Orange County, SPIN is able to provide assistance to unhoused families through prevention services and diversion. The foundation of our program is SPIN’s wrap-around case management, which focuses on the causative factors that lead to instability. We work with each client family to create an individualized plan and goals, including job development, increasing income, budgeting skills, and more. The final goal is to increase the family’s ability to maintain housing and create a stable environment for their children.
We have served over 78,000 families and individuals since our inception in 1987.
Each year, SPIN serves thousands of households as a Family Solutions Collaborative Access Point for Central Orange County.
Through our GAPP Housing Program, we consistently maintain an over 90% success rate in clients reaching self-sufficiency.
Annually, our Case Managers and Navigators complete almost 200 assessments and Family Coordinated Entry enrollments through its diversion and assistance programs.
Through loyal community relationships, we raise thousands in in-kind donations such as gift cards and items for the food pantry, clothing, home supplies, furniture, and hygiene kits for individuals in need.
Our network of over 2000 committed volunteers consistently provide over 5000 hours of service, including the assembly of 7500 meals for our local shelters.
SPIN also continues its role as the Housing Partner at the Melinda Hoag Smith Resource Center, the only center of its kind attached to a hospital.
